Web Art by Rainfrog - She provides
beautiful packages complete with matching bars, backgrounds, icons, and bullets all in
one. She asks only acknowledgement of her work. This web page features her purple design.
Highly recommended.
Fischer West - He provides
beautiful free seamless tile backgrounds that are very colorful and original. Some
patterns may be too busy to have a font show up well, though. Use your own discretion.
Highly recommended.
Infinite Fish - Another set of lovely,
colorful, original seamless backgrounds. Again, use discretion with text colors as some of
these are very bright. Highly recommended.
Disturbing Patterns - This is an
interesting original background archive, but it is not for the faint of heart. Some
potentially offensive material here. Backgrounds range from the unibomber to sheep to
nudes.
Cool Cat Icons - A very
cool collection of cats drawn by the author of the page. Highly Recommended.
Animated Gifs Gallery - A nice collection of
animated gifs, not slow to load like some collections are.

Web Pages That Suck - A really brillant
and funny collection of web pages that have flawed designs. Author Vincent Flander's
theory is that one can learn good design by looking at bad design. Highly Recommended.

- An excellent set of tips and pointers for designing your web space. OK, not tips and
pointers. Commandments. Highly recommended.
HTML Help by the Web Designers Group - More about
accessiblility and design.
National Center for Accessible Media -
Information about designing web pages that EVERYONE can access.
HTML Tips - help make your
web page accessible to the most people possible.
ALT tag usage -
Information about why it is important to use the ALT tag and how to use it correctly.
Highly Recommended.
Bandwidth Conservation Society -
has a lot of information about designing quick loading pages that look nice. Also has an
archive of images. Highly recommended.

Doctor HTML - A validator which checks
to make sure your HTML is written correctly and that all of your links are active. A good
page should validate often. Highly Recommended.
Web Reference - A wonderfully comprehensive site for
everyone from beginners to professional designers. Highly Recommended.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation - A great place to go
for information about the legalities of the internet, etc. A watchdog group and sponsors
of the popular Blue Ribbon Campaign.
Hyper Text Markup Language -
The specs for different versions of HTML, including 2.0 and the most recent 3.2. Somewhat
techincal, but understanding what you are working with is very important. Highly
Recommended.
HTML for Beginners
- The best guide I've found for the beginner who wants to learn HTML. Highly Recommended.
How do they do that with
HTML? - A tutorial for people with some (not extensive) knowledge of HTML.
HTML Tutorial with some nice features,
such as a searchable index. Recommended.
Table Design Hints -
for making tables look good in non graphical browsers, etc.
Composing Good HTML - Not a guide for
beginners, but excellent. Highly Recommended.
Frames: An Introduction - I'm
not a big fan of frames OR Netscape, but this is about the best document I've seen for
beginners.
Tables in Netscape -
Again, it's Netscape, but again, it's quite useful in showing what can be accomplished
with tables.
Gif Animation on the WWW - A nice
gallery and in depth explanation on animating gifs.
The Logo Shop - Free logos designed for
your personal home page.
World Guestbook Server - If youd like a guestbook on
your home page, lpage.com provides free guestbooks to private home pages.
Web Counter - provides free web counters to
private home pages.
HTML Color Chart - A nice color
chart showing the colors and codes for background, text, and link colors.

Java Programming Resources
- Download sites for all known supported platforms, FAQs, tutorials and documentation,
book lists, PostScript reference sheets ("thumbnail" summaries of various
topics), examples, applet and class library collections, security, garbage collection
info, etc.

Find what you need on the web
Yahoo! - my personal favorite for ease of use, but
not as comprehensive as a spider program. Also my favorite "Search by category"
engine.
Metacrawler - Searches
several indices (Yahoo!, Lycos, Excite, etc.) at once in order to give a wider range of
possibile results. My favorite multiple search engine, for those really obscure searches.
Alta Vista - a spider program that searches a
huge index. My favorite "Search by keyword" engine.
