Note: if some of the discrete mathematics concepts discussed in class or the homework are new material for you, go to the library (the Math library in Dunn will also be a good source) and find an introductory book on discrete mathematics which will provide some additional reading material and examples. Assignment 6 is due on 10/7. Tuesday, October 5, 2004 Exam #1 will be on Tuesday, October 12 and will be closed book and closed notes. The exam will cover material from chapters 1 through 5 plus all handouts provided in class. Page 97 and Table 5.1 from the textbook will be provided as an appendix to the exam. Please refer to an introductory relational database book (several can been obtained in the main library or the math library) if you are unfamiliar with some of the relational database terms used in chapters 13 and 14. Thursday, October 21, 2004 A zip file of an older student version of Rational Rose is available here. This version is not supported and has limited in functionality. A full-blow version of Rational Rose is available in ET 312. Thursday, October 28, 2004 Assignment 8 is due 11/4/04. Chapter 14 slides were discussed and are here. Also, some handouts on use cases and object-oriented databases were provided in class. Read this paper on Use Cases for Ontologies in Information Fusion. It uses several of the fundamentals that we have discussed in class. Thursday, November 18, 2004 Read chapter 11 (it is very short). Exam #2 includes chapters 1-11, 13-14, in addition to all handouts, slides, and links to material in previous announcements. Tuesday, November 23, 2004 Exam #2 is today. Read chapter 20.
